Monday Morning Classics, 10:00 aM to Noon

We welcomed Betty Morrison to the airwaves on Monday, January 8, 2024!

Betty taught music classes such as General Music and Chorus in the Monroe Public School District for 31 years. She was also a church musician at St. Peter’s Grace Episcopal and Monroe Congregational. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and holds a Master of Arts in Musicology from the University of Michigan.

Betty tells us her parents always had music at home, from Perry Como to Big Band to fondly-remembered Christmas albums like Arthur Fiedler’s recordings with the Boston Pops, and the Harry Simeone Chorale. She recalls being fascinated by 50 Great Moments in Music and would quiz her mother from the booklet that came with the album.

Also formative were the many years of piano instruction. By middle school she was playing in local churches and instructing her own students. She attributes her love of Chopin to these early years at the keyboard.

Some of her favorite classical works include Berlioz’s Harold en Italie, Mendelssohn’s Octet, and Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 6 and 7.
