“This is going to be a bit long-winded, but I’ve wanted for years to tell you that while I listen each and every day to WMNR and can’t imagine a day without you, I’m most especially grateful for your broadcast of the New Year’s Day concert from Vienna. For more years than I can count my husband and I made a very special occasion of that concert. Even though it’d be 11:00 in the morning, I’d dress in my most fancy dress, we’d set a special table lit with candles, eat special food and toast the new year with champagne, all the while delighting in the wonderful spirit of the waltzes, polkas, and the other marvelous pieces on the program.

The Blue Danube would inevitably draw a few tears (I refuse to this day to listen to it at any other time) and then we’d clap with great enthusiasm during the Radetzky March, sometimes when we’re ‘supposed’ to and sometimes not! After he died, now over ten years ago, our daughter and I still celebrate the concert in the same manner in remembrance of him. So, WNMR, huge thanks for all you do in bringing the world’s best classical music to those lucky enough to find you streaming or on the dial and thanks for the New Year’s concert.”
